Newegg, beloved online tech retailer, represented in full-force at PAX East 2017. Our team here at DKCgaming was pulled in various different exhilarating directions, mostly as it related to new industry technologies and products in the VR space. For a small listing of Newegg’s PAX East highlights, please look to this list below –
Virtual Reality Demos
The Newegg/Intel booth featured four VR spaces where attendees were able to demo the HTC Vive and Oculus VR. I am quite sure I qualified as their most dramatic, loud, and excited guest when using the HTC Vive, playing a few levels of Space Pirates! It was just a fantastic experience that everyone should get their hands on, as you hopefully can see here –
Call of Duty Leaderboard Challenge
Steve Vasquez moderated the Call of Duty Leaderboard Challenge. Registered participants competed for their share of 15 prizes awarded each day of PAX East, ranging from gaming peripherals to computer components.
Free Play for Attendees
Newegg had a plethora of laptops for attendees to test their skills on Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2, while Intel featured a variety of games running on desktop computers with three-monitor setups for a truly immersive gaming experience.
Along with that, the new Predator 21 X Gaming Laptop with eye-tracking technology was set up for us to test out. Essentially, your eyeballs move the cursor, and the space bar fires the laser, in a demo where blasting enemy space ships was the basic premise. It actually was a bit strange and clunky at first, but presumably gets better as you get used to it. Having about 15 minutes with it, I personally can say it was definitely a unique and fresh idea for the future, but I can only imagine a person getting “tired” of having to move their eyes with very specific movements so often.
Newegg was also host to “The State of PC Gaming” panel discussion on March 11 at PAX East. Panelists from Intel, AMD, HTC, Corsair and Quake Championships discussed the past year in PC gaming, the state of virtual reality, predictions for the future and what exactly makes PC gaming special.
Racing Drones Take Flight
Thrust UAV demonstrated its flagship Riot 250R Pro first-person view (FPV) racing drone. These drones were certainly fancy, and something in my paranoid brain was telling me I shouldn’t touch. Click here for more information about Thrust UAV products available on Newegg, and see the images from PAX East below.
More Attendee Competitions and Raffle Giveaways
Newegg’s meeting room was also the site for an invite-only Hearthstone tournament, as well as a PS4 build challenge. The Hearthstone tournament’s top four daily winners received Huawei Mate 9 phones, with the grand prize winner also receiving a gaming chair from Nobilechairs. The PS4 build challenge’s grand prize included a PS4 and an SSHD.
It’s clear to see, as PAX East 2017 came to a close, Newegg was one of the hot places to be for getting a first-look at some of the newest tech, while also enjoying a plethora of other fun experiences.
