The Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference brought on the hype right away today with a slew of announcements and gameplay footage for many Xbox One/Windows 10 games. The news from the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference is below:
Xbox One S
The Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference started by immediately showing off the newest console to join the Xbox One family: the Xbox One S. Sleek new design, 40% smaller than the original Xbox One, HDR gaming and 4K support, with all of the same games you love, and even a new controller with increased Bluetooth range. The Xbox One S will be available in August for $299 USD.
Gears of War 4
You gotta love Gears of War, and Gears 4 is bringing the thunder! With Xbox Play Anywhere, players can buy a game digitally and play it on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, sharing the achievements and progress between the two. Every co-op mode in Gears of War 4 will support cross-play with Xbox one and Windows 10 PC. And while the game looks incredibly amazing, it was made so much more awesome at the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference when they brought Laura Bailey out on stage as a delightful surprise! Laura is voicing an incredibly awesome character named Kait in Gears 4.
Also, please give a warm (and dangerously sharp) welcome to “the buzzkill,” a brand new weapon in Gears of War that shoots saw blades. These saws can even bounce off walls and destroy the environment, along with other weapons in the game, to alter the playing field.
Gears of War 4 also launches alongside a new elite Gears-branded wireless Xbox One controller.
New Killer Instinct Character
Looks like the Killer Instinct roster will see the likes of General Raam from Gears of War. The Gears villain has been preceded by other outside Microsoft-brand characters from like Rash from Battletoads and The Arbiter from Halo. General Raam will be available to play for free this week.
Forza Horizon 3
Forza Horizon 3 is set in Australia and is absolutely beautiful. The game will have four-player “instant” campaign co-op play, where you can quickly and easily join up with friends to race alongside each other. At the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference, they called this “the most social Forza yet.” Other features in Forza Horizon 3 are below –
- Lamborghini Centenario
- Extreme terrains
- The largest open-world ever built by PG
- Largest car roster ever seen in Horizon
- 4 player campain co-op
- Exclusive Xbox One & Windows 10
- Available September 27, 2016.
A year after its reveal, Microsoft showed off ReCore once again at the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference presentation with a new trailer and a definite release date. Check out the trailer for this action-adventure game here –
ReCore is releasing on September 13 for both Xbox One and Windows.
Final Fantasy XV Xbox One Demo
Square Enix revealed the first ever demo of Final Fantasy XV running on Xbox One. The demo showed off a game play section called “Trial of Titan.” In the live press conference demo, the developer was fighting against a gigantic titan. It did seem as though it was being played from a single protagonist’s perspective, but there were other characters fighting the titan as well. All in all, it was a very action-packed demo sequence. Final Fantasy XV releases on September 30, 2016.
Battlefield 1 and Xbox Live Updates
After EA replayed a recent Battlefield 1 trailer, Mike Ybarra, the Head of Platform Engineering for Microsoft took the stage with a bit of news on Xbox Live. Xbox One will be getting some new features this summer, including background music, language selection independent of your region, and the intelligence of Cortana AI. Coming in the fall, there will be an opportunity for players to chat and create communities with Clubs on Xbox Live. There will also be a feature called “Looking for Group” which they described as “a want ad for multiplayer.” And lastly, regarding the Xbox updates that were mentioned, “Arena” will be a tournament platform for registering and competing in online tourneys in your games.
Many Indie Titles Coming to Xbox One
Cuphead, Outlast 2, Flint Hook, Far, SLime Rancher, Shadow Tactics, Figment, Teh Culling, For the King, Beaocn, Stardew Valey, Hand of Fate 2, Below, Raiders of the Broken Planet, Bloodstained: Symphoy fo the Night, and Risktakers are just some of the indie titles coming to Xbox One. Limbo is available for free for all Xbox One players as of today!
Ark Survival Evolved also got some screen time at the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference. Those who have it on Xbox One will be able to play it this fall on Windows 10 as well thanks to Xbox Play Anywhere.
The creepy We Happy Few
The Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference was host to another demo for We Happy Few, Compulsion Games’ next (creepy-ish) game. We Happy Few was first shown off at last year’s E3 and fans have been awaiting its arrival ever since. This is a game about weening yourself off a happy drug that has taken society over, and while I describe it as creepy, it also seems quite interesting. I would hate to be “a downer” after seeing how these drugged-up clowns react when they find out there’s a “downer” in their presence. We Happy Few will first come to console on Xbox One, no concrete release date yet.
There’s a massive beautiful world in Witcher 3… but many people seem to just want to stay inside the tavern and play cards. So now, Gwent, the card game from the Witcher 3, is getting its own standalone card game! The game will have a solo campaign mode, but you’ll also be able to play with cross-platform multiplayer. The closed beta begins on Xbox One and Windows in September. Gwent fans can sign up at playgwent.com
Developer Bandai Namco has announced that its upcoming fighting game Tekken 7 will be coming to Xbox One, with a release date slated for early 2017. Tekken 7 will also have a story mode blending gameplay and cinematics. There was also mention of Xbox Live Gold members getting Tekken Tag Tournament 2 all this week! Shortly after the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference, Bandai Namco announced that Tekken 7 would also be coming to PC via Steam.
Dead Rising 4
Any game that allows me to wear a triceratops head and breathe fire is A++ in my book, and it appears as though Dead Rising 4 will let you do just that! It could be taking place during the Christmas season, and it is as glorious as ever. Dead Rising 4 is expected to release during the holiday season this year.
Breaking the boundaries of scale, Scalebound is bound to make your scales tingle. Platinum Games’ Kamiya notes that the battle that took place during the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference is the biggest boss battle that Platinum Games has ever created. The epic boss fight sequence surely was impressive! Watch the Scalebound briefing segment here –
Sea of Thieves
Some Sea of Thieves gameplay footage was finally unveiled to the world, and this title by Rare is generating a lot of hype for Xbox One and PC users. Sea of Thieves is said to be Rare’s biggest and most robust game to date, as the developer has never developed a loot-based MMO before. There was no release date officially announced, unfortunately, but players are speculating a mid-2017 release is likely. The gameplay footage was revealed on stage as a compilation of recorded gameplay when Rare invited several players to get a first look at the game a few weeks before; see the footage here –
State of Decay 2 announced
The trailer for State of Decay 2 was beautiful at the Microsoft E3 2016 Press Conference… beautiful in a bloody zombie-bashing sort of way. The original game began as a modest little downloadable zombie title for Xbox 360 in 2013. In years the coming years after that, the game received high praise and a number of updates with additional content, and ports for Xbox One and Windows 10. And now, the sequel will inject a large multiplayer component into the franchise and hopefully build upon other great online zombie games. State of Decay 2 will be available for Xbox One and Windows 10, and will be developed by Undead Labs.
What we were all waiting for: Halo Wars 2
Not only was Halo Wars 2 displayed with an amazing trailer, but the beta for Xbox One is live now until June 20th. The game is set immediately after the events of Halo 5, and the new trailer showed the forces of humanity fighting against “the Banished,” the new race of aliens led by a general who looks kind of like an angry grey birth-child of a Warcraft Tauren and a Planet of the Apes gorilla. View the stunning trailer here –
Halo Wars 2 will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC on February 21, 2017 as another Xbox Play Anywhere title.
Last, but definitely not least… the next Microsoft console!
In a brazen display of power, Microsoft has shown off their first move towards the next console. Project Scorpio will arrive some time next year, but we still haven’t even really seen much about it after today’s press conference. This new system will feature 8 cores, 320Gb memory bandwidth, and six teraflops of performance that will allow for fully uncompressed true 4K gaming… I will admit, I don’t even know what a teraflop is, but it sounds incredible. Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, stated that Microsoft believes this will be the most powerful console ever built. And amidst all of the amazing demo reels and specs, it was also confirmed that all Xbox One games and accessories will be compatible with the upcoming Scorpio. It kind of makes me wonder why they’d announce the Xbox One S in such close proximity to a new console launch, but hey, that isn’t the first time a gaming company has done such a thing.
So with all of these incredible announcements, Microsoft definitely could be striking fear into the hearts and minds of Sony and Nintendo, but we’ll see what both of those companies bring to the table in the coming days/months. Let us know in the comments what you were most hyped about with all of these E3 trailers, announcements, and all-around dropped bombs of awesomeness!
