#1 – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda on Nintendo 64 has everything. It has an epic story, wonderful visuals, great combat sequences and weapons, and many different gameplay elements. While it’s classified as every bit of an action-adventure game, it also has the elements of an RPG, a Shooter, and even a glimpse of OcarinaOfTimeBattleracing by a small stretch of the imagination (while you’re riding horseback on Epona). Ocarina of Time had four major rereleases, as it was originally ported to the GameCube, and then to the 3DS in 2011, and finally to the Wii and Wii U Virtual Consoles in 2007 and 2015, respectively. The game received perfect review scores from many major gaming outlets that reviewed it upon its launch, and sold over 7.6 million copies in its lifetime.

For me personally, as a kid who grew up mostly in the 90s (born in the 80s), The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was the best video games could get! When I hear the banjo and fiddles of Lon Lon Ranch , Saria’s song, or the Song of Time, I am taken to a magical place in time where I was fully immersed in the most grand adventure that gaming has ever given me. The game had me using a hookshot to reach the most treacherous areas, shooting a bow-and-arrow from atop Epona’s back, questioning whether the characters all presumed Shiek was a guy or a girl, and even fishing in Lake Hylia (I seriously spent HOURS fishing). All of this, and so much more, is why I believe The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the #1 gaming gift to the world!
